- Provide essential support, including food, clothing, and emergency assistance for newly arrived individuals and families;
- Offer a listening ear and emotional support, recognising the pain of loss, disconnection, and starting over;
- Facilitate access to language classes, legal aid, and integration opportunities, helping refugees find stability and confidence;
- Foster a sense of belonging and community, connecting newcomers with local families, volunteers, and mentors;
- Promote dignity and empowerment, not dependency—encouraging refugees to use their skills, voices, and experiences for good;
- Support the Nelson 2034 vision by building a community where no one is treated as an outsider—and where faith, justice, and mercy shape how we welcome and walk with the most vulnerable.
THE ANSAAR PROJECT
To create a community where every refugee and asylum seeker is welcomed with dignity, supported with compassion, and empowered to rebuild their lives with faith, belonging, and hope.
WELCOME PACK:
All asylum seekers and refugees when they first register, receive a welcome pack consisting of food parcels, toiletry pack, household essentials, cash voucher, allowing them to begin their life here with a boost. This welcome also contains he essential information needed to live and thrive in Pendle and the UK.
We also provide counselling support with professionals to deal with mental health issues. We have an employment coach that assists refugees in finding employment. We have social gatherings to enable asylum seeker refugees to socialise and meet other people.
We can also assist and signpost for the following essential services
• Help registering with GP
• Help finding dentist
• Help filling in forms
• Help finding schools for the kids
• Immigration support

• Clothes
• Toys
• Kitchen appliances such as fridges, washing machines
• Kitchen utensils
• Furniture such as sofas, tables
• Blankets (which is a big one as in our experience the blankets provided by serco are always inadequate)
• Rugs
• Toiletries
